*insert hysterical laughter here*

Well the last of the test are back and I'm completely weirded out.

Inhibin B: normal reference range = 100-250 ng/L;  <10 = post-menopausal

Guess who has an Inhibin B level less than 10?? Me! Amazing, I am still having perfectly regular periods, and ovulating, but my result on this test suggests that I am done and dusted with periods and fertility.

What The Fuck is going on in there????

Doctor's appointment next Wednesday. I wonder what his take will be.

Here is a virtual bunch of flowers for all you lovely, lovely ladies who have shared my incredulity, horror and disbelief with me. You have showered me with love and kindness and for that I am eternally grateful.

  1. I'm putting these numbers into my brain and can tell you only one thing: they are not computing. You are ovulating regularly. Ergo, you are not menopausal. You are certainly not post-menopausal. And as far as I'm concerned they can take those tests and shove them somewhere priceless.

I really do feel - and bear with me through my pique here - that science has failed us. That's right: failed us. It has all of these lovely diagrams, fancy curves, interesting charts. And yet, things don't add up. And this does not add up. For as long as you are ovulating, you can get pregnant. That's an unassailable fact and - I really do believe - the only thing here that is done and dusted.

Very curious to hear what your doctor will say.

  2. The DHEA must be fucking with your numbers. I find it hard to believe you could have reasonable (even pretty damn good!) numbers mere months ago and now they should be this much worse. It baffles.

In my bench research days, if an experiment went so terribly awry that I couldn't pinpoint a single, or even several, failure factors, I assumed it was random and moved on to the next trial. You know, if your controls don't even work out right, and the data are scattered all over the place, you don't sit down and bother normalizing or crunching numbers, right?

Surely your RE can make sense of this...I hope.

  3. Nope. Doesn't make sense. At. All.

Any way you can go to a totally different clinic/doctor and run them all again and get a second opinion?

I don't think I've ever even had my Inihibin B done...if it's so worth hanging one's hat on, surely to goodness someone would have given it to me by now.

As my acupuncturist says, as long as you're ovulating, you have a chance of getting pregnant.

The fat lady hasn't sung, my dear - scary as it can be to get numbers that don't look good and to be put in the menopausal category (come on in - I'll make some room in here for you), keep looking for answers and support.

    XOXOXOX
    Love,
    Maddy

  4. GAWD this is maddeningly confusing! It just doesn't jive. Your RE better have some shiny nuggets of insight about all of this! Hurry Wednesday!

  5. What the hell is going on? I have no idea what these numbers could mean. It seems that they are way off base. Hang in there and wait to see what the RE has to say.

  6. I don't know what to say--it's just so totally crappy! So confusing, so incomprehensible, so WEIRD! Incredulity is totally the word! But also so terrifying and just plain AWFUL! I hope hope hope it will all turn out to be the DHEA, or something. I know there's not much comfort in this whole mess, but I hope you'll cling to whatever there is. Thinking of you in this terrible moment...

  7. That's good news! I hope your RE can make perfect sense out of all this (hah!). I say quit the DHEA... but what do I know?

  8. I agree with all of these folks, ovulation means not menopausal. So there. The numbers and your reality do not coincide-- your reality wins.

And hate to tuck this into such a shitty time but sincere and hearty congratulations on your thesis-- I am so thrilled for you- and so impressed.

    Hate your numbers
and hope for some great clarity from the doc and a retest post DHEA. What the fuckingfuck indeed.

    sending love,
    kate

  9. I can't imagine how frustrated those numbers must be making you. You are so not post-menopausal, and I'm sure your RE will agree. Good luck!!!

  10. I'm quite late in chiming in...

    WTF!?!

I don't understand. None of the numbers make any sense for you. I say screw it. They are just numbers and I don't believe that they mean anything.

I'm really, really, really hoping that the new RE comes up with an explanation and a great plan!

    Big, HUGE ((HUGS)) for you!
